People moves: HSBC, Scottish Widows, and Charles Stanley

HSBC has appointed John McDonald to its newly established role of chief marketing officer (CMO).

McDonald will be responsible for bringing together HSBC’s marketing and brand functions across its four primary businesses: Hong Kong, the UK, HSBC Corporate and Institutional Banking, and HSBC International Wealth and Premier Banking. He joins the firm from UBS, where he was group CMO, based in Zurich. Following his appointment, which is effective from 1 October 2025, McDonald will be moving back to London. Prior to his role at UBS, McDonald held marketing positions at Mastercard, Digitas North America, and WPP. At HSBC, he will lead the shaping and delivery of the bank’s marketing strategy, branding initiatives, and client engagement.

Scottish Widows has named Jenny Davidson as intermediary wealth director.

Davidson will join the firm in October, bringing more than 30 years of experience in financial services and growing adviser platform technology and strategies to the role. She joins Scottish Widows from Quilter, where she had been proposition and commercial director since June 2022. Prior to Quilter, Davidson worked at both Aberdeen and Standard Life, where she supported the development of their platform propositions, strategies for wealth technology and investment solutions, and managing strategic relationships.

Charles Stanley has appointed Celine Legaspi as sustainable portfolio lead and responsible investment analyst.

Legaspi joins the firm from investment consultancy Redington, where she led sustainable and impact investment research within the manager research team. At Charles Stanley, Legaspi will lead the day-to-day management of the firm’s newly launched Sustainable Multi-Asset Guidance Portfolios. This role will also cover portfolio implementation practices for investment managers and guidance around bespoke portfolio tailoring for clients. She joins the responsible investment team alongside head of responsible investing, Paris Jordan, and responsible investment analyst, Lewis James-Lawrence.
